Io sono il Mollettaio
Domenico Cardile in arte “Il Mollettaio” nacque a Messina il 23 maggio 1955 di professione muratore, si distinse per una spiccata passione per l’arte e una fervida immaginazione che lo portarono a sviluppare una creatività unica e inimitabile. Questo volume si propone di rendere accessibile ad un pubblico più ampio il suo lavoro fatto di opere che fondono la semplicità della vita quotidiana con la profondità dell’espressione artistica.
La raccolta che segue è suddivisa in due sezioni ognuna delle quali esplora una parte essenziale del mondo del Mollettaio, la prima è dedicata alle opere realizzate interamente con mollette di legno, un materiale umile ma che diventava un mezzo per creare capolavori, tra le sue opere più celebri vi sono fedeli riproduzioni di luoghi sacri e in particolar modo chiese e cattedrali di cui ognuna minuziosamente dettagliata e intrisa di spiritualità e dedizione, inoltre alcune di queste opere possono essere ammirate in diversi luoghi di Messina e dintorni; chi desidera scoprire queste opere può consultare la “Mappa del Mollettaio” disponibile sul sito www.ilmollettaio.it, trattasi di una guida interattiva che invita i visitatori ad un vero e proprio tour culturale e artistico della città di Messina e dintorni.
La seconda sezione di questo testo è interamente dedicata alle poesie del Mollettaio, un’altra forma attraverso cui Domenico ha saputo esprimere la sua anima artistica, esse sono scritte sia in italiano sia in dialetto siciliano (Messinese) e sono un riflesso diretto di esperienze di vita, pensieri e sentimenti.
La raccolta include poesie mai pubblicate prima d’ora la cui stesura si estende dal 1984 al 2019 coprendo quindi più di tre decenni di riflessione e creatività, per rendere i testi comprensibili a chi non conosce il dialetto ogni poesia è accompagnata da una traduzione in italiano, inoltre a corredo di ciascun testo troverai anche un’interpretazione che ne svela il significato offrendo una guida per apprezzarne meglio la profondità.
Il desiderio di pubblicare queste poesie era un sogno che Domenico coltivava da tempo ma la sua indole umile e riservata fu un ostacolo per questo progetto, quindi non riuscì mai a pubblicare i suoi testi in vita.
Il Mollettaio era una persona semplice dal carattere allegro e profondamente legato alla sua terra e alle sue radici, dopo la sua scomparsa avvenuta l’11 agosto 2023 all’età di 68 anni si è deciso di onorare il suo desiderio pubblicando le sue opere postume affinché possano finalmente essere condivise con il mondo, sfogliando queste pagine avrai l’opportunità non solo di conoscere e apprezzare le opere ma anche di scoprire l’uomo che si celava dietro il Mollettaio, un uomo che ha trasformato oggetti semplici come le mollette di legno e le parole in poesia.
Adesso mi presento: sono Gabry e sto scrivendo questo testo nel 2024, mi limiterò a riordinare tutte le opere e ad aggiungere materiale utile come traduzioni in Italiano e interpretazioni qualora sia necessario per rendere la lettura fruibile a tutti.
Le Opere del Mollettaio
Tutte le opere presentate in questa raccolta sono state interamente realizzate a mano nel corso di molti anni utilizzando esclusivamente mollette di legno come materiale principale, queste creazioni non sono mai state prodotte a scopo di lucro; anzi molte di esse sono state donate ad enti pubblici e oggi sono esposte al pubblico.
La realizzazione di ogni opera ha richiesto non solo una notevole quantità di mollette (spesso migliaia) ma anche centinaia di ore di paziente lavoro artigianale, il Mollettaio si serviva di pochi materiali oltre alle mollette di legno come pittura ad acqua per dare colore e vitalità e colla vinilica per assemblare i pezzi con precisione e resistenza.

Domenico Cardile in art "Il Mollettaio" was born in Messina on May 23, 1955 as a bricklayer by profession, he distinguished himself by a strong passion for art and a fervent imagination that led him to develop a unique and inimitable creativity. This volume aims to make his work made of works that blend the simplicity of daily life with the depth of artistic expression accessible to a wider audience.
The following collection is divided into two sections, each of which explores an essential part of the world of the Mollettaio, the first is dedicated to works made entirely with wooden clothespins, a humble material but which became a means to create masterpieces, among his most famous works there are faithful reproductions of sacred places and in particular churches and cathedrals, each of which is meticulously detailed and imbued with spirituality and dedication, also some of these works can be admired in different places in Messina and surroundings; those who wish to discover these works can consult the "Mappa del Mollettaio" Available on the website www.ilmollettaio.it, it is an interactive guide that invites visitors to a real cultural and artistic tour of the city of Messina and its surroundings.
The second section of this text is entirely dedicated to the poems of the Mollettaio, another form through which Domenico was able to express his artistic soul, they are written both in Italian and in Sicilian dialect (Messinese) and are a direct reflection of life experiences, thoughts and feelings.
The collection includes poems never published before whose writing extends from 1984 to 2019 thus covering more than three decades of reflection and creativity, to make the texts understandable to those who do not know the dialect each poem is accompanied by a translation into Italian, also in support of each text you will also find an interpretation that reveals its meaning offering a guide to better appreciate its depth.
The desire to publish these poems was a dream that Domenico had cultivated for a long time but his humble and reserved nature was an obstacle to this project, so he never managed to publish his texts in life.
The Mollettaio was a simple person with a cheerful character and deeply linked to his land and its roots, after his death on August 11, 2023 at the age of 68 it was decided to honor his desire by publishing his posthumous works so that they can finally be shared with the world, by leafing through these pages you will have the opportunity not only to know and appreciate the works but also to discover the man who was hiding behind the Mollettaio, a man who transformed simple objects such as wooden clothespins and words into poetry.
Now I introduce myself: I'm Gabry and I'm writing this text in 2024, I'll limit myself to reordering all the works and adding useful material such as translations in Italian and interpretations if necessary to make the reading usable to everyone.
The Works of the Mollettaio
All the works presented in this collection have been entirely handmade over many years using exclusively wooden clothespins as the main material, these creations have never been produced for profit; indeed many of them have been donated to public bodies and are now exposed to the public.
The realization of each work required not only a considerable amount of clothespins (often thousands) but also hundreds of hours of patient craftsmanship, the Springer used a few materials in addition to wooden clothespins such as water paint to give color and vitality and vinyl glue to assemble the pieces with precision and resistance.
