Saranda (2019)

Ho avuto modo di visitare questa bellissima località nel 2019 per caso in quanto faceva parte dell'itinerario "Il Mediterraneo Segreto" di Costa Victoria, non avevo grandi aspettative prima di partire, ma appena sono arrivato mi sono reso conto che si trattava davvero di una località sorprendente, con colori intensi, spiagge spettacolari, tantissimi bar, locali e hotel che si affacciano su un mare trasparente che non ha nulla da invidiare alla Grecia, anzi, a mio parere l’ho trovato persino più bello e pulito di molte zone più blasonate.

Si vede subito che Saranda è un luogo votato al turismo internazionale, ma la cosa che mi ha stupito è stato il costo della vita davvero basso rispetto ad altre mete del Mediterraneo, tanto che anche un semplice caffè costa appena cinquanta centesimi, un prezzo quasi simbolico se pensi che la clientela è composta quasi esclusivamente da stranieri in vacanza.

Purtroppo, l’anno successivo è arrivata la pandemia che ha fermato tutto e ancora oggi non sono riuscito a tornare per scoprire meglio l’Albania, ma già dopo questa breve esperienza posso dire di aver sfatato tanti pregiudizi che circolano sul paese, perché non è vero che l’Albania è pericolosa, anzi, ho trovato una realtà molto pulita, ordinata, accogliente e piena di gente simpatica e disponibile, con tanti ragazzi che parlano bene italiano, il che rende la destinazione ideale anche per chi non ha dimestichezza con le lingue straniere.

Saranda resta per me una delle sorprese più belle di quell’estate e sono convinto che meriti molto di più di una sola giornata di visita, perché ha tutte le carte in regola per diventare una delle mete top del Mediterraneo.

I had the chance to visit Saranda in 2019 almost by accident because it was one of the stops on the “Secret Mediterranean” itinerary of the Costa Victoria and honestly I didn’t expect much before arriving, but as soon as I got there I realized that this place was truly amazing, with vibrant colors, beautiful beaches, and an incredible number of bars, restaurants, and hotels right on a crystal-clear sea that is just as stunning as anything you’ll find in Greece, and in my opinion even better and cleaner than many more famous places.

It’s immediately obvious that Saranda is a destination built for international tourism, but what surprised me most was the extremely low cost of living compared to other Mediterranean resorts, with simple things like coffee costing only fifty cents, which feels almost like a gift considering that most of the people here are foreign tourists.

Unfortunately, the following year the pandemic hit and I haven’t been able to return to Albania yet, but even after this short visit I can say I’ve already dispelled many of the clichés you hear about this country, because it’s not true at all that Albania is dangerous, in fact I found it to be very clean, safe, welcoming, and full of friendly people, many of whom speak Italian well, which makes it the perfect destination even for those who don’t feel comfortable with foreign languages.

Saranda was definitely one of the most pleasant surprises of that summer and I’m sure it deserves much more than just a quick visit because it has everything it takes to become one of the top Mediterranean destinations.
