Capodanno a Varsavia (2017)

Varsavia è una capitale che non ti aspetti, fredda fuori ma calda dentro.

Ci sono stato a fine dicembre per festeggiare il Capodanno e posso dire che è stata una scelta azzeccata, lì il 31 dicembre si vive davvero, la gente comincia a uscire nel pomeriggio, le piazze si riempiono presto, si festeggia già prima della mezzanotte ed è bello proprio per questo perché senti di far parte di qualcosa, ho scelto di vivere tutto dal vivo in piazza, senza troppe pretese, solo voglia di stare in mezzo alla gente, brindare, parlare con sconosciuti e festeggiare l’arrivo del 2018.

Varsavia è divisa in due anime, la parte nuova è moderna, piena di locali, centri commerciali, grattacieli, tutto molto vivo e dinamico, poi c’è la città vecchia che è esattamente l’opposto, più tranquilla, piena di ristoranti, stradine acciottolate, edifici storici e quell’atmosfera da Europa dell’est che ti conquista piano piano.

Durante quei giorni ho conosciuto diversi ragazzi del posto e tutti mi sono sembrati aperti, gentili, disponibili, niente a che vedere con l’idea del popolo freddo o distaccato, anzi ho trovato un’accoglienza che mi ha colpito.

Varsavia poi è una città sicura, ci si può muovere tranquillamente sia a piedi che con i mezzi a tutte le ore, e non è una cosa scontata per una capitale, soprattutto se ti piace vivere la notte.

A proposito di notte, le discoteche sono tutte in pieno centro, c’è proprio una via intera dedicata ai locali da ballo, l’ingresso spesso è gratuito o basta pagare un ticket semplice senza troppe formalità, niente liste, niente prevendite, solo voglia di divertirsi, e per me questo è un gran punto a favore.

Se ti affascina l’idea di un Capodanno diverso, in una città dove senti il freddo sulle mani ma il calore dentro, dove puoi vivere la notte con leggerezza e sentirti parte di qualcosa anche se sei lontano da casa, allora Varsavia è una scelta che ti consiglio senza pensarci due volte.

New Year's in Warsaw (2017)

Warsaw is the kind of capital that surprises you, cold on the outside but warm on the inside, in winter it might look closed and distant but once you’re in you realize it knows how to welcome people better than many other places.

I went there for New Year’s Eve and it was the right call, December 31st in Warsaw is a real celebration, people head out early, the main squares fill up before midnight and the energy is contagious, it’s not like in other places where people only show up after midnight, here the party starts well before.

I chose to stay outdoors in the crowd, no fancy plans just a bottle in hand and a desire to be part of the celebration with total strangers around me and honestly it’s one of those memories that sticks with you.

The city has two sides, the modern area with shops, skyscrapers and clubs buzzing with energy and the old town where things slow down, the streets are charming, the restaurants are cozy and there’s that Eastern European vibe that creeps up on you and wins you over.

I met a lot of locals during my stay and they were nothing like the stereotype, warm, friendly, talkative and genuinely welcoming which really made the experience even better, Warsaw also feels incredibly safe, you can walk around or use public transport at any hour without problems and that’s a big deal especially if you love staying out late.

And speaking of nightlife, there’s a whole street downtown full of nightclubs, no guest lists, no dress codes, just music and good vibes, most places either let you in for free or for a small cover charge and to me that’s exactly how it should be.

So if you’re looking for a different kind of New Year’s Eve celebration, in a city where it’s cold outside but warm in spirit, where strangers become party companions and the night flows naturally, then Warsaw is a destination I’d absolutely recommend.
